Story
Douglas Kenneth McManus
1954-1994
Brief Biography
Doug was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 15,1954. I first met him in 1973, and we became fast friends. He was an extremely talented hairdresser, colourist and artist, with an incredible zest for life. He moved to Ottawa, then Toronto in the late 1970’s and for a time lived directly on Yonge Street.
Favourite Memory
Doug loved hair shows and practicing new hair techniques and every couple of weeks changed my hairstyle and colour completely! His Halifax apartment warm and welcoming, always open for friends to drop by. I remember one year he shoved his dying Christmas tree up the chimney and light a match to dispose of it! He was funny, quirky, sweet, kind and a dear friend to many. And he had about 25 different ways to make KD!!
Message to loved one
I miss you Doug. And our many nights dancing till the wee small hours of the morning. While we lost touch over the years, I still have your “Cape Breton Reel” painting hanging in my Calgary home, as well as a few of your wonderful sketches. They will always be my reminder of you. Love you my friend.
HIV/AIDS Awareness
So very many needless deaths; we lost a generation of beautiful people with so much to offer to the world. May this be a reminder to accept people for the light they bring, to heal and not harm, and that we all need to be the change the world needs.
